When I first walked in, I thought this place was simply an OK Chinese restaurant. The decorations were typical, the service was average, the menu had the same dishes you would find at any Chinese restaurant, and the prices were average. However, the food was great. I got an order of steamed dumplings and the sesame chicken which came with white rice, soup, and an egg roll. It was more than enough for 2 of us to share and have some left over. So, overall, I had a good experience and would return if I'm ever in the area.

First Wok, Golden Wok, Magic Wok!! If you didn't know, all of these restaurants are owned by the same family. First Wok is located on 44th Street (Kentwood), Old 28th Street (Cascade), and on Alpine (Walker). These three are owned by the oldest sister of the family. This place is the only location that is located in a building all by itself. I think this place is the only nice looking restaurant and it seems to hold a higher class to it. The room is quite big though with plenty of tables for large groups. The decor is more high class than the other two locations. Service is quick, but you can't expect a lot from Chinese restaurants as they are usually the in-and-out type of place. I fond that they rotate their servers between the 3 restaurants so it's not like you're seeing any "new" faces as you go dine at other locations. The food is good for a typical Chinese menu. It comes out hot off the stove and you can't every go wrong with any dish you get. I especially love the eggrolls as it is filled with so much veggies. The egg drop soup is one of my favs as it is filled with not just eggs but delicious veggies as well. My one dish that I usually get here is the General Tsao's. It's listed as spicy and I'm the type of person that does not enjoy spicy meals, but this meal is just so delicious. I don't know what it is, but maybe due to the cleanliness of this place compared to the other 2 locations, the meal tasted better. The restrooms here are also very clean (not like most Chinese places). Seeing that this restaurant is owned by the same family members, I believe it is safe to safe that the food is the same at all locations with different names.

Food: Hot N Sour soup--great. Szechuan Beef--a little different than expected, but still wonderful. Good service. Will definitely come again when in town.

I got take out, so I can't say whether the service was good or not, but the food sure was. The dumplings are huge and tasty. The soups were great and the entrees were both delicious and very good portions. Definitely not fast food Chinese fare.

Good Chinese food. Pleasant dining experience & quite quiet inside. Ask about specials b/c sometimes they don't tell you...Princess Chicken is good & they will make things to your specifications if you ask. Yum. I always feel like we spend a ton when we do take out, but when we dine in, I feel like prices are pretty decent. My husband & I had huge dinners there the other night and with tip it was about $27.

I came here for dinner while I was in GR for business. It was a good experience overall. I got seated and my server came over immediately, brought hot tea which was really good. I ordered the steamed dumplings which were just okay..nothing special about them. I also ordered the moo shoo pork - it was amazing! Plenty for two people to share! I would come back here on my next visit to GR, MI.

Ordered orange chicken for take out. It was half cooked. Called to get replacement plus credit given I had to drive back to the restaurant to pick it up. Our family's dinner was interrupted and ruined. Rather than admit their mistake, the manager wanted to debate whether the chicken was raw claiming it was a red chicken. That hardly explains why the outside of the chicken was white and inside red. Management's response to the issue was worse than the chicken itself!

Some of the best chinese food we have had in a long time, if ever!! Great flavors and very fresh tasting. We ordered our food to go, but the atmosphere inside the restaurant seemed nice and I would recommend it for a sit down dinner as well. My husband and I agreed, we will definitely be back!

Went there a year ago and had the dumplings...worst food poisoning I've ever had in my life! It was the first I met my in laws and spent most of the trip hovered over the toilet...never again!.

We go to First Wok for lunch at least once a month, maybe more. They have the best Egg Drop Soup I have ever had in a Chinese Restaurant. Thick, full of veggies, & mini shrimp, not just eggs and bok choy floating in a thin broth like many others. I admit we are stuck in a rut and order the same thing every time, Mongolian Chicken and Almond Chicken.....not exactly adventurous. But we have taken many friends here and they all were pleased with their meals. Clean, pleasant atmosphere, efficient wait staff, and ample food portions.

I have been coming here with my family for over 10 years, it is hands down the best Chinese I've had in west Michigan. They are reasonably priced and everything on the menu is delicious. Make sure to try the Bali Bali Beef (they bring a mini fire grill to the table!) and the egg rolls are crunchy, yet juicy and very flavorful. Be cautious on the entrees, there are definitely large portions per plate. I recently tried the Beef Egg Foo Young, it was amazing fried egg and vegetables, doused in a savoury sauce and a heaping serving of beef strips.

The location of this restaurant is off of 28th street down "old 28th street", which was a bit confusing to find. We went for lunch and thusly, the lunch menu was standard fare of a typical Chinese place. With lunch, you have choice of a soup with egg roll or crab wonton. I started with egg drop soup which was much better than the usual watery version, I added some spicy mustard for a little kick. Service was quick and portions were fair. I had the Hunan combination which was good however it had indicated it was spicy. It did give my mouth a small aftertaste of heat after the entire portion but a spicy dish that does not make. Really quite mild. It's only hot if you're an octogenarian. The three crab wontons were a throwaway. No crab flavor, little filling at all. Overall, quite pleasant, although I'd like to see the whole dinner menu for a little adventure in the future.

Truly delicious food. I absolutely adore the dumplings. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the waiters come off as distant most of the time. It's easily forgivable. They may see their job differently than I do, and the fact that they are attentive enough without overbearing and they bring such delicious food is fine by me.

We ate at First Wok during lunch time which activates this strange lunch type special which are somehow not remotely available when you eat at a Chinese restaurant any other time of the day. That aside, the $7 meal that you get includes an egg roll, a rangoon, hot tea service, and a hefty bowl of soup. I was quite impressed. We had a very accommodating and knowledgeable server. (She was even willing to let us carry some out, which is apparently against the rules in Chinese establishments.) I really enjoyed the hot and sour soup. Overall, great Chinese lunch experience.

We went here last year and the food was pretty good.....not any longer. It was a little past the lunch rush so it wasn't too busy......server came over talked very softly. I had to ask him to repeat just about everything. He brought water as we sat down......it tasted like a swimming pool and was served with lemon rounds.....and we had to ask for water without lemons. --Lunch menu doesn't contain any vegetarian dishes and I asked him for something like a Veggie Delight dish. It did not contain any 'real' veggies......just little chunks of carrots and peas. The worst part was EGGS!!!!!!! There must have been at least 3-4 eggs cooked into my rice. --I also asked for no meat egg rolls.....he gave us ones filled with chicken. --Hot and sour soup was very bitter........the entire meal lacked flavor. Will not return when in the area.

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
